Mukono, Uganda–: Government of Uganda through The Microfinance Support Center (MSC) has launched a pioneering Piggery Demonstration Project in Greater Mukono Region (Mukono, Kayunga, Buvuma and Buikwe Districts) in partnership with Mukono Diocese Church of Uganda.  Hon. Fredrick Ngobi Gume, Minister of State for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives (Cooperatives) – officiated at the well attended launch. During the launch, Dr. Kiiza Aliba Emmanuel, Board Chairperson MSC, invited the community to embrace all MSC programs supported by the Government of Uganda.  The project will enhance income and livelihoods by providing business opportunities, modern farming skills, and economic empowerment to the local communities. During the launch, 300 pigs were handed over to the beneficiaries.

In 2019, MSC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Mukono Diocese to set up joint projects, including a piggery farm, maize mill, and an abattoir in Mukono, Buvuma, Buikwe, and Kayunga districts. The primary goal was to empower over 6,000 households within the Diocese by enhancing their skills in piggery production, ensuring access to quality pig breeds, and providing a ready market.
