In order to improve access to information, MSC entered into an understanding with 61 SACCOs) across the country to be reference points for MSC services and related information. The SACCOs also receive feedback to related to services and products and relay it to MSC. They also provide technical assistance and share good practice to support weak SACCOs.

NYAKATONZI GROWERS CO-OPERATIVE UNION LTD (NGCU)
Nyakatonzi Growers Co-operative Union Ltd (NGCU) is located in Kasese Municipality and was formed in 1957. It is a farmer owned cooperative enterprise engaged in processing and marketing of seeds (Maize, Sunflower, Rice and Beans), milling edible oil from sunflower and cotton seeds. The Co-operative and provides warehousing services to f cotton, maize beans, and rice farmers under the warehouse receipt system. The Union consists of 62 primary co-operative farmer’s societies with an average membership of 250 members per society. The total members of the Union are 15,000 famers drawn from the districts of Kasese, Bushenyi, Kamwenge, Kabarole and Kanungu.
Nyakatonzi Co-operative Union has so far accessed 8 loans from MSC totaling 10,368,000. The Union exports cotton to UK, China, and South Africa. The Union employs over 328 from the local community of which 28 are permanent employees and300 are seasonal/temporary workers. This has boosted the household income of the community in the area. The Union also provides farm inputs /crop financing in form of tractors and seeds to the farmers.
Kijura SACCO was registered in 1994 and is located in Keitamba Trading Centre, Hakibaale Sub- County and Burahya County in Kabarole District.
The SACCO operates in the whole of Hakibaale Sub County which consists of 6 parishes and also has members in the nearby counties of Bugaaki and Nyarusozi in Kyenjojo District.
Kijura SACCO has so far accessed six loans from MSC totaling to 305Million shillings. Currently the SACCO has 2275 members engaged in agricultural activities. The loan portfolio of the SACCO has grown from 23,489,492 shillings in 2006 before accessing MSC funds to 494,282,315 currently while the total savings have grown from 45,745,711 shillings to 507,761,297 shillings currently. The institutions total assets have increased to 1,081,230,252 shillings from 66,580,769shillings in 2006 before accessing loans from MSC.
MSC is proud of this SACCO because it is one of the SACCO’s that is self-sustained in the region. For the last one year, it has not borrowed funds from MSC but generates profits from its internal business making net profits after taxes of 47,693,196/=.
