MSC BOARD MEMBERS VISIT CLIENTS IN KABAROLE ZONE
September 15, 2015
"Poverty can be reduced if Ugandans take the responsibility of utilizing the little resources available." said Mr. Baguma
During a monitoring visit recently, the Microfinance Support Centre Ltd (MSC) Board members visited some of the projects funded by the company in Kabarole Zone. One of the projects they visited was Kamwenge Community Development Project. The Board Members who included Mr. Fred Mwesigye, Mr. David Baguma and Ms. Elizabeth Nakungu noted with satisfaction the impact of the loan received from MSC on the farmers in Kamwenge and neighbouring districts. "Poverty can be reduced if Ugandans take the responsibility of utilizing the little resources available." said Mr. Baguma.
Kamwenge Community Development project provides farm inputs to farmers and buys maize directly from them in order to enhance their household income. The project operates two farms, one in Kamwenge and another in Kagadi and has enrolled 4,000 farmers to supply maize to the project. Many farmers have been trained on how to produce good quality maize. The project has also provided market for the farmers' produce at a competitive price.
Through the 3 billion shillings loan received from the MSC, the organization has acquired machinery and constructed a big store and 3 silos with a capacity of 1 million kilogrammes of maize grain each. The organization has secured a contract to supply graded maize to World Food Programme.
The Board members commended Kamwenge Community Project for its contribution to the improvement of wellbeing of the farmers and pledged MSC's continued support to the organisation.
The Board was accompanied by MSC Director Credit & Operations, Mr. Thomasmore Katutsi and the Regional Credit Manager, Mr. Peter Kibirango.
